Q: Do I need to be LGBTQ+ / in the games industry to participate?
A: Nope! This game jam is open to EVERYONE! We just want you to have fun and explore something different. We only ask that you are respectful to those in this community!
Q: Can I participate solo in the game jam? How do I find team members?
A : Of course! If you do wish to join a team though – please check out our Discord channel for finding people or ask on Twitter using the hashtag #RainbowJam20.
Q: Do I need to use the whole two week period for jamming?
A: While we don’t wish to encourage crunching, we appreciate that two weeks can be too much for some people. If you only use a weekend, a week or the full time allocation that’s fine – we want to promote queer games being made using healthy practices!
Q: When is the theme announced?
A: We will announce the theme at the beginning of the game jam along with our diversifiers as well.
Q: Do I need to stick to the theme? I’m struggling to come up with something!
A: The theme is only there as a suggestion / guiding post for you. If you have an idea in mind for something but doesn’t quite fit the theme – that’s okay! If you still need some help figuring out a game idea then this is why we include diversifiers. Think of these as mini challenges for you. These are optional!
Q: Can I enter a game I made previously / use assets I’ve created before the game jam?
A: Unfortunately, you cannot enter a game you have made previously – this is unfair for those creating something new for this years game jam. For assets, as long as it’s within reason and you’re still making something new for the game jam, then this is fine!
Q: Do I own the rights to my game?
A: Yes! We may ask permission to use your game / art in promoting the game jam in the future and you may revoke this at any time by getting in contact with us.
Q: I’ve ran out of time but still have a game I wanna submit!
A: Don’t worry! Upload your game onto itch.io and then email firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject LATE SUBMISSION and a link to your game. We’ll sort it out from there!
Q: I’m wanting to speak to the organisers about partnering up, how do I go about that?
A: First of all, thank you! Second of all, send an email over to email@example.com and let us know what you’re thinking!
